BMW, Porsche & Alpha Romeo Suspension Upgrades

BMW & Porsche have good handling right out of the factory, this is how you take them from good to GREAT!

First, there are awesome companies like…

  • Bilstein
  • Eibach
  • Sensen

Who have created BMW and Porsche suspension kits that include everything you need to make your vehicle’s suspension do nearly anything you would like.

For race fans, they want a stiffer suspension for better handling and less body roll.

For daily drivers they may want something tighter but still include some comfort.

Then there are custom jobs we create and put together that is perfect for your vehicle, your race track or your daily driver.

A few of the basic components in your suspension system are.

Coilovers

A coilover is a shock absorber that has a coil spring encircling it.

Both the shock absorber and spring are assembled as one unit which provides damping without twisting the coilover. Making it more effective and durable.

Some coilovers also you to adjust the ride hight and stiffness as well as dampening.

Bushing upgrades And Polyurethane Bushings

When you are upgrading your suspension, also upgrading the bushings will help your handling, steering and braking. It does this by reducing dynamic energy loss.

Aftermarket bushings will provide a stiffer suspension than the softer factory bushings. By having stiffer performance bushings it gives you a faster energy transfer.

As a practical example,

The faster your action of turning the steering wheel, to your vehicle actually turning the better performance your going to have.

A normally factory bushing has cushion in it, which means it dampens or slows the action of your steering wheel telling your tires to turn.

By using a stiffer bushing many times made of polyurethane will provide less cushion but still gives you superior handling response and better control of wheel alignment angles.

Shock Rebuilds, Revale Or Replacement

First, what are the symptoms your shocks need to be rebuilt, revalved or replaced?

  • Swerving or nose diving when your brake
  • Brakes take more time to stop the car (you will also experience nose dive)
  • Vibrations when you are driving
  • Tire wear is uneven
  • Fluid is leaking from Shock
  • Busing is cracked at attachment points

I wish we could give you a one size fit’s all answer, but it is a little difficult to tell you if you need to rebuild, revalve or replace your shock.

What we do is check your shocks performance, second is it going to be more cost effective to invest in a new shock or should we repair or revalve the current shock.

The rebuild or revalve process can be a great option when you have already invested in a high quality shock and or strut. The process of rebuilding or revalving involves us getting a new spring and seals that are fit for your suspension system.

Then Replacing the spring and seals and reassembling with fresh suspension fluid (race grade in some cases) then if needed the correct nitrogen charge.

Since every BMW & Porsche is different, we will pull up the parts to do each and walk through it with you.

If you would like we can even look at high performance shocks or a custom shock & strut like a bilstein kit.

After we figure out what’s best for you, your driving habits or if you only use your vehicle as a track car. Then go from there.

We have done hundreds of suspension shock upgrades, revalves/ rebuilds for track cars, daily drivers you name it. We love creating the EXACT suspension system and feel you want in your vehicle.
