Clutch
Clutch replacement and upgrades.
Most any manual transmission installed on a modern car has a clutch system. It is a wearable part that needs to be in top service condition for the vehicle to function properly. Modern design has given rise to robotic-manual systems such as BMW’s SMG, Porsche’s PDK, Ferrari / Maserati’s F1 shifting system and VW’s dual-clutch DSG system.
Whether that clutch is manually operated by the driver via a traditional manual clutch pedal and shift lever, via the robotic manual transmission unit found on some more modern designs with steering and column-mounted paddles or buttons, it is still a manual unit and it has a clutch that will wear out over time.
Hydraulic Units
The hydraulic units found in the modern manual-matic systems, tend to actually wear the clutch out faster as a combination of a computerized hydraulic function tries to execute the traditional functions of stepping on the clutch while lifting off of the gas pedal, shifting gears and then gently reengaging the clutch as the throttle is reapplied smoothly. With some of the older systems such as BMW’s SMG, or as found in an earlier Aston Martin system for example, this sequence is executed rather slowly and somewhat clumsily.

Porsche’s next generation PDK as found in say a 911 GTR for example is lightening fast – faster than any human driver can ever execute a traditional shift!
While we are traditionalists who rather enjoy the mechanically connected feeling and engaged experience of rowing through the shift-gates, we understand and appreciate the sophistication of the modern design shifting technology trend.
Either way, we are experienced and equipped to service your manual or automatic transmission.
Manuel Transmissions
When servicing or upgrading any manual transmission’s clutch system, care has to be taken to evaluate complete replacement, versus servicing and repair of existing components. Considerations include the condition of the clutch master cylinder, the clutch slave cylinder, the clutch lines, clutch fluid, the engine’s flywheel, the pressure plate, the throw-out bearing and the clutch plate(s) itself.
If it is one of these robotic manual transmissions, it becomes significant more involved. As an example for the Ferrari & Maserati calls theirs F1 gear boxes we have to utilizing a $30,000 computer called the Leo Nardo. JUST so we can service, repair or upgrade the F1 clutch.
Each of the different clutch robotic systems have their own computers we have purchased to give our customers the BEST quality workmanship for their performance vehicle. Clutch Performance upgrades include conversion, replacement, torque converters.
Every Vehicle is Different
Every vehicle is different and the conversion kits are all different. For this reason most shops leave the robotic clutches alone and send you to the ever increase priced dealer. We dove in and can do all the dealership does, and in many cases I would say better. Because we also go to the track to see how the vehicle performs then continue to make changes and perfect it. This is far superior to a VS a dealer throwing a new part at it and hoping the problem stops.
If you have a Porsche, BMW, Masarati or Ferrari clutch you want performance work done on OR the it’s having issues from timing or poor or slow shifting Give Us A Call!
9 times out of t 10 the dealer will only replace a clutch costing you big time, when there may be another we way can repair it and keep it working great for years to come.
